Halibut Fishing in Homer Alaska

Ling Cod are the alligators of the sea, sporting a large mouth full of teeth. If you have ever had a good look at a northern pike’s mouth, multiply by 10, and stand back! These guys are nasty! Fortunately, they are tasty too, with a sweet, white meat.

We fish for lings in the neighborhood of East Chugach Island, a 2 to 2 ½ hour trip from Homer. We time our ling trips to coincide with smaller tides, and you will catch them using large jigs while drifting across underwater rock piles. Lings range in size from sub-legal length (35”) minnows to trophies weighing over 60 pounds. Halibut, as well as Yelloweye and Black Rockfish are common incidental catches.

In addition to great fishing, the spectacular scenery along our route, as well as a good chance of a whale encounter, make this trip one to remember.

Lings are in season from July 1 through December 31 and the limit is 2 fish over 35 inches long per day.
